Torsion Springs
Garage door torsion springs are tightly wound, high-tension coils designed to store mechanical energy, counterbalancing the weight of the garage door. By winding and unwinding during door operation, they generate torque to facilitate smooth lifting and controlled lowering, ensuring balanced movement and reducing motor strain.
The torsion springs are mounted above the door and it has a metal tube that runs through the center and it has drums on both sides of the tubing. Every time the garage door is closed, drums move with the cables that are connected to the door’s bottom and it creates stored energy.
How to Measure the Wire Size of Torsion Spring

Torsion Springs Wear
When the garage door is opened, the springs unwind to release the energy and let the door open. The spring would then unwind as the door rolled to its open position. As it does so, it will lose both power and strain until the time that it would again be needed. If your garage door is used several times each day, then expect the torsion springs to wear out quicker and require repair or replacement.

Torsion Spring Repair & Replacement
As a homeowner, you are aware that your garage door has many parts and components. Each of those components is crucial to the smooth and easy operation of your garage door on a day-to-day basis. But you’re probably not too knowledgeable about what those individual components are. Among those are garage door springs.
Garage door springs play an important part in making the opening or closing of your garage door easy. The springs are kept under constant pressure to make manual opening and closing easy by reducing the weight of the door. This could wear down the springs over time. At Garage Door Pro, we offer garage door spring repair and replacement services, particularly for torsion springs.
